Camp Blast

Here’s ALL SORTS of IMPORTANT information for you to know about CAMP BLAST!

TRANSPORTATION (2 hour bus ride to Hillsdale, MI)

  • Monday, July 23—Arrive at the WEST parking lot of the church at 12:30 pm.  The buses will leave promptly at 1:00 pm.
  • Friday, July 27—The buses will be returning to the church at 12:30 pm.

*Please let us know if your child is NOT riding the bus to and from camp.  Otherwise we will plan on your child being on the bus! If you choose to drive your child to or from camp, check-in is from 3:00-4:30 on Monday and campers are dismissed at 10:00 am on Friday.

MEDICATION

If your child takes prescription medication, you will need to send it in a Ziplock bag in its original container along with the enclosed medication form on the day of camp.  We will collect all medications as your child boards the bus, so please have them handy.

IF YOU NEED TO PICK YOUR CHILD UP DURING CAMP

Parental Permission is REQUIRED for a camper to LEAVE CAMP at any time during the week.  If your child has to leave camp before breakfast on Friday, PLEASE send a note with your child on the first day of camp.  The note must state:  date and time when the child will be leaving, AND who has permission to pick up the child.  When your child arrives at camp, he/she should give this note to the registration staff person.  The child must be signed out at the Camp BLAST office before departing from camp.

PACKING LIST:  *A word of advice–Using a suitcase with wheels makes it easier for your child to haul their gear to the cabin when they arrive at camp.  Also, mark all belongings with your child’s name.

  • Bible, pencil or pen
  • Drawstring backpack or tote bag for carrying items to chapel, free time, etc…
  • Towels, washcloths, toiletries
  • Twin-sized fitted sheet to put on bunk mattress (keeps sleeping bags from sliding around and is simply cleaner!)
  • Sleeping bag or blanket to cover up with (CABINS ARE AIR CONDITIONED AND ARE COLD AT NIGHT)
  • Pillow
  • Clothing—do not pack your best clothes…shorts, t-shirts, hoodies, sweatpants, etc. are all you need…don’t forget underwear!
  • Comfortable shoes—we walk a lot!  Flip flops are great, but also need gym shoes for certain activities
  • Beach towel, sunscreen, and bug spray
  • Swimsuit—Girls:  one piece swimsuit or tankini (as long as midriff is not showing)
  • Swimsuit Cover-up (girls)—or you can just wear a t-shirt and shorts over your bathing suit on the way to and from the waterfront
  • Garbage bag or laundry bag for dirty clothes
  • Reusable water bottle
  • Flashlight
  • A few snacks
  • Rain poncho or umbrella—hope we don’t need these!
  • Stamped and addressed envelopes and stationary (if you want to write home)
  • Camera (optional)

We are “unplugging” at Camp BLAST!  DO NOT BRING:  Cell phones, radios, iPods, or electronic games.  These will be confiscated from the camper and returned upon departure.  Also, do not bring “prank warfare.”  Campers not cooperating with this guideline risk the possibility of being sent home.  Also, your child does not need any money!

*It is the Regional District’s policy for campers to refrain from bringing cell phones to camp.  They are a huge distraction.  In case of an emergency, parents will be contacted (no news is good news!).  In the event of an emergency back home, you may contact Janice Hunter at 260-820-0882.

 

If you would like to send your child a letter or package, please mail it on Thursday or Friday the week before camp to ensure that it arrives in time.
